Notice how you feel when you smell freshly baked chocolate cookies versus walking past an open sewer. Smells elicit a response from us whether we are aware of it or not. Boost your creativity with Essential oils by sending certain message to our brain to relax, be positive and experience states of euphoria.
Essential oils have an ability to elicit emotional responses in us and are therefore used to create and enhance potitive mood states. Certain smells can help us meditate, relax and feel positive, all of which are condusive to creativity. If that’s not enough, take it from the experts. Baudelaire, the French writer, was passionate about essential oils and so was Leonardo da Vinci, famed for surrounding himself with perfumes, especially Neroli. Even Shakespears father was a glover who used excessive amounts of essential oils. Could this have been the contributing factor to the creation of 39 plays, 154 sonnets and countless poems?
Creativity is a birth right
Creative thinking is not the preserve of artists, musicians and novelists. Valerie Anne Worwood says it’s our birthright to be spontaneous, joyful, loving, trusting and free – free in mind and spirit, free to soar, create and laugh. Creativity is inherent in all of us from birth. In some it is nurtured and allowed to flourish, in others it takes a back seat to other skills and talents.
Everything can be done creatively. It adds a sense of pleasure and joy to the task at hand, whether you’re peeling potatoes or brainstorming a car ad. It’s a way of doing things rather than an end in itself; the journey rather than the destination, so to speak. Whether we’re creating a new recipe, writing a novel, preparing the latest board report or job searching, inspiring your imagination to soar is helpful to create a state of pleasure and joy in which your creativity can flourish.
How do essential oils boost creativity?
Essentials oils have a direct effect on the brain in two ways. The first is inhalation and the second is essential oil absorption. The inhalation route begins with the nose. Aromas are inhaled and registered by the olfactory bulb at the top of the nose. The olfactory bulbs are an extension of the part of the brain called the limbic system, the home of our emotions, sexual feelings, memory and learning. All these things can therefore be evoked with the inhalation of aroma.
Essential oil absorption occurs via the bloodstream. This happens via the via the blood capillaries at the top of the nose and the delicate mucous membranes in the mouth or respiratory tract when we do an inhalation. It also happens via the skin when applied through massage. Massage is an important delivery method for essential oils in aromatherapy. Although our skin accounts for roughly only 2% of our body weight, it gets 15% of the blood supply. When absorbed into the bloodstream it circulates around the body to every cell and organ. It also gets delivered to the brain via the blood-brain barrier, which keeps many things out apart from drugs, alcohol and, luckily, essential oils!
We don’t actually know how they work on the brain once they get there, but we do know that they are hugely powerful for inspiration and creativity, based on credible scientific research on the effects.
